Silence After the Parade

This work explores the moment after ecstasy, the breath after the final note. Mardi Gras is not about carnival but about what remains when the music stops: identity, heritage, and the masks we choose to keep.
I used grayscale to strip away noise and color, revealing rhythm through form and contrast. The instruments and Bourbon Street sign recall New Orleans’ vitality, while the raven, ice, and shield speak of memory, decay, and protection. The central figure is both muse and guardian, embodying the tension between exposure and preservation, as well as freedom and restraint.
Like jazz, the composition is improvised yet deliberate, a dialogue between chaos and order, body and myth.
